ABOUT THIS PAINTING
Swell is a group of waves that has traveled a long distance across the ocean, usually created by strong winds from a storm far away. Unlike choppy waves caused by local winds, swell waves are smooth, regular and more organised.
This small and elegant watercolour portrays two rolling breakers as they reach the shoreline. It is clear from the background that the weather is relatively calm, with few clouds and just a moderate chop on the sea. Hints of a few breaking waves further out are evident on the right-hand side of the horizon.
Created using online references, combined with imagination and artistic licence.
The painting is elegantly showcased with grey border, set within a solid wood frame finished in matt black.
The online images may not fully capture the vivid colour palette and depth of this artwork due to colour compression and the limitations of screens. Colours that are often underrepresented on digital images include hues ranging from turquoise to deep blue.
