ABOUT THIS PAINTING

This small watercolour study captures the dramatic interplay of light and shadow across a moody sky.

A diffused glow of dusk breaks through layers of storm cloud, with evidence of rain or virga (rain that evaporates before reaching the ground).

The composition is minimalist, with subtle hints of a terrestrial element below—perhaps a horizon with rolling fields.

The pallet is composed of Paynes grey, raw Sienna and a light grey-blue close to the horizon.

The palette is composed of Payne's Grey, raw sienna, and a light grey-blue below the cloud base.

Beautifully presented with a charcoal-black border and enclosed in a minimalist black frame creating a contemporary aesthetic.

Frost and flurry, 2024
