ABOUT THIS PAINTING
This minimalist watercolour and its seamless transitions were challenging to achieve, focusing more on evoking emotion than depicting identifiable elements. However, the painting attempts to delicately capture a wintry landscape shrouded in the stillness of a frosty morning.
Along the horizon, an expanse of snow stretches with a suggestion of snow-covered trees beneath muted daylight. The middleground reveals a field of mist and fog, with further silhouettes of trees dusted in hoar frost. Finally, a bold mass of growth in the foreground, or perhaps the edge of a hill, adds subtle depth to the composition.
Photographing artwork with delicate colour palettes is often very challenging, and this painting was particularly difficult, as the images struggle to do it justice.
The painting is beautifully presented with a grey border and enclosed in a walnut-finish frame, which complements the dark brown tones in the lower section of the artwork.
