ABOUT THIS PAINTING
These three watercolour studies explore skies and atmospheric moods.
The left piece features sweeping greys and browns, capturing the movement of early evening clouds with “virga”—rain that evaporates before reaching the ground.
The middle study blends earthy greens and greys, evoking a humid, summery atmosphere, perhaps depicting the base of a thunderstorm with turbulent scud cloud and sunlight breaking through below.
The right piece uses greys and blues to portray a turbulent sky filled with bubbling cumulus.
Each study employs minimalist techniques, utilising a wet-on-wet method that allows the paint to flow and form naturally. The ice-white mount provides a crisp contrast to the warm and dark tones in the cloud formations.
Beautifully presented, the paintings are mounted with an ice-white border and enclosed in a minimalist black frame, creating a contemporary look.
