Inspiration

This study captures the shallow waters of a tropical coast, with pronounced textures suggesting a varied undersea terrain. The lighter turquoise at the top, where marine life thrives, gradually transitions to the darker blues of the deeper sea.

In this small abstract, I focused on achieving new effects by layering thicker translucent and transparent media, creating a watery effect. The artwork is best admired up close to appreciate its detail.

A bold, white floater frame adds a contemporary accent to this study.

Colour and light

Online images may not fully capture the vivid colour palette and depth of this artwork due to colour compression and the limitations of screens. Colours that are often underrepresented on digital images include hues ranging from turquoise to deep blue.

The artwork's appearance varies considerably with changing ambient light (influenced by the time of day and weather), as well as the angle of view and the colour of the background. Hues of turquoise and blue look especially saturated, exhibiting a glow against greys and neutrals.
