This artwork changes dramatically in appearance depending on light (location, time of day and weather).

The phthalo green, blue and turquoise glazes become especially vibrant as light bounces off the textured surface. For this reason, this small to medium-sized canvas is ideally suited for a location with plenty of natural daylight (e.g. under a skylight or facing a large window). The painting becomes dark, flat and opaque in dim, artificial light or in a poorly lit corner.

The word “Phthalo” (pronounced ˈ(f)θaləʊ, FAH-low or FAY-low) is short for “phthalocyanine blue” or “phthalocyanine green”. It is a bright, greenish-blue synthetic pigment of high intensity used in paints.

Note: computer screens often struggle to portray the true colour palette of physical artwork - particularly blues and greens. Hues can vary substantially between different monitors, smartphones and even between applications (e.g. instagram v webpage). The richness of colour and scattering of light on a textured canvas is often lost. Please check the photos on multiple platforms for an “average” view.
