ABOUT THIS PAINTING
Inspiration
In this small study, the rocky patterns attempt to capture the movement of ice over arctic terrain with evidence of moraines.
The texture has been crafted by blending sand, crushed pumice, acrylic pellets, mediums and pigments, occasionally fused with fire for a distinctive effect.
It is a moody piece with an earthy and matt finish embodying a cold and inhospitable arctic landscape.
The technique and the cold colour palette have been explored in anticipation of a larger abstraction, promising to yield a highly atmospheric painting.
A bold, white floater frame adds a contemporary accent to this study.
Colour and light
The online image may not fully capture the colour palette and luminosity of this abstract due to file compression and limitations of electronic displays.
This painting is ideally suited for a contemporary setting, particularly on a small wall space. Its small size means it could easily be lost on a larger wall, so location should be carefully considered.
